Still hungry for THE HUNGER GAMES? Reading suggestions

Are you showing THE HUNGER GAMES withdrawal symptoms? Catching Fire has just been released to the big screen and all you can think about is when Mockingjay will hit the movie theaters...I feel your pain. It will be at least a year. If you have broken the spine of each book in Suzanne Collins' wildly popular series and you think that "Collins Rowling Meyer", the young adult/dystopian fantasy powerhouse, won't strike gold with some new material any time soon, you may want to consider a few titles, old and new, serial and stand-alone, to satisfy your hunger for hunger games.

ALLEGIANT by Veronica Roth

Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent."

It's the final book of the MATCHED trilogy. "Cassia’s journey began with an error, a momentary glitch in the otherwise perfect façade of the Society. After crossing canyons to break free, she waits, silk and paper smuggled against her skin, ready for the final chapter. The wait is over. One young woman has raged against those who threaten to keep away what matters most—family, love, choice. Her quiet revolution is about to explode into full-scale rebellion. With exquisite prose, the emotionally gripping conclusion to the international–bestselling Matched trilogy returns Cassia, Ky, and Xander to the Society to save the one thing they have been denied for so long, the power to choose."

"Do you really want to know where we come from?" she said. "In every century, in every country, they'll call us something different. They'll say we're ghosts, angels, demons, elemental spirits, and giving us a name doesn't help anybody. When did a name change what someone is? -  Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world."

HOW I LIVE NOW by Meg Rosoff
Wendy Lamb Books, November 30th 2004
Paperback, 194 pages
Goodreads/Amazon

In this award-winning young adult novel, "fifteen-year-old Daisy is sent from Manhattan to England to visit her aunt and cousins she’s never met: the next day bombs go off as London is attacked and occupied by an unnamed enemy. As power fails, and systems fail, the farm becomes more isolated. Despite the war, it’s a kind of Eden, with no adults in charge and no rules, a place where Daisy’s uncanny bond with her cousins grows into something rare and extraordinary. But the war is everywhere, and Daisy and her cousins must lead each other into a world that is unknown in the scariest, most elemental way."
